Hello! How was your weekend? Anyone else ready for snow? When the cold weather hits, I start wishing for snow. Call me crazy but I really enjoy living in a place with all four seasons. Today on the blog I wanted to give a quick weekend recap. Besides battling a little stomach bug, this weekend seemed to be a nice mix of relaxing, social activities, time to work on personal growth, and finding a rhythm that works for me.
This was my first full week back to work after the Thanksgiving holiday. By Wednesday I was exhausted. Thursday was a long day but after teaching my Cardio HIIT class at 5pm, I felt like a new person. Teaching my Cardio HIIT classes twice a week is like my therapy. I always feel great afterward. I was ready for Friday and a weekend at home.
After work on Friday, I squeezed in a fitness blender workout (previously shared in my November Favorites post) at home in my basement. We had leftover turkey cabbage soup for dinner and enjoyed a little Netflix before bed. Exactly what I needed.
Saturday morning called for pumpkin pancakes.
Pancakes were followed by a workout at our neighborhood gym. We almost had the whole place to ourselves. I didn’t go in with much of a plan but instead tried listening to my body to see what I needed/wanted to do for a workout. After 15 minutes of random sprints on the treadmill (based on the beat of the music I was listening to), I did a few weight exercises on a stability ball and played with a medicine ball until my arms were exhausted. As I have been practicing intuitive eating, I have also been trying to be more intuitive in other areas of my life too. Going to the gym felt like a treat not because I had to go but because I was able to go and enjoy it.
My post-gym fuel was a random smoothie bowl with lots of kale, frozen bananas and blueberries, almond milk, and bob’s red mill vanilla protein powder. This was my first time trying this protein powder (cyber Monday purchase) and I really liked it. I was craving a little crunch so I topped my smoothie bowl with this cereal (available at most grocery stores). We always have this cereal on hand. It’s a great snack with almond milk, although now I may use it more often on my smoothie bowls. Nice combo.
Patrick and I went downtown Holland to work at the coffee shop in the afternoon. I enjoyed a coffee and scone from JP’s. Getting these scones is such a treat. I took close to two hours to eat it because I really try to savor each bite.
Saturday night we met friends for dinner at Everyday People Cafe in Douglas, Michigan. This restaurant normally has a long wait and doesn’t take reservations. This time of year is considered their off season so we luckily only had to wait for 15 minutes. It can be tricky getting good food photos in a dark restaurant but I tried my best!
For an appetizer, we all shared the Spanish Tapas.
Patrick ordered the Braised Beef Short Rib & Polenta.
I ordered the Stuff Poblano Peppers.
For dessert, the table shared a s’more plate.
While Patrick and Jim went to get the car, Sarah and I squeezed in a picture together. 🙂
I was a little under the weather on Sunday and had a pretty low key day. After church and a nap (because I still wan’t feeling well), I did chores around the house, planned for the upcoming week, and got in some meal prep.
